Hoboken University Medical Center 'Thinks Pink'
At Hoboken University Medical Center our ultimate goal is a healthier community, which is why we're “Thinking Pink” in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October 1-31.
Early detection is critical for the successful treatment of breast cancer and Hoboken UMC is advancing the fight against this disease with a powerful new tool — state-of-the-art digital mammography. We're one of the few Hudson area hospitals to offer this diagnostic imaging, which has been found to be 15 percent more accurate than traditional x-rays in detecting abnormal cells in women under the age of 50 and those with dense breast tissue.
Hoboken UMC staff and volunteers have taken up the cause and are promoting the fact that early detection of breast cancer saves lives. We are distributing complimentary gift certificates for digital mammograms throughout the community, so that women who are uninsured or underinsured will have access to this lifesaving health screening.
Our message to women of all ages this month is take the time to get screened (clinical breast exams beginning at age 20 and mammograms for women of average risk beginning at 40) taking care of yourself is the key to reducing your risk of breast cancer.
